If you were to go carolling or participated in a choir or just sitting around your home with close family and friends what Christmas hymns, carols and/or kiddie songs would you most enjoy singing?

Let's talk about it here.

Singing by myself doesn't sound the greatest to me, but when I sing in the shower I think I sound better. Singing with other people sometimes improves my vocal range. Still, I enjoy singing along to Christmas music when I hear it.

:singing: When I was younger and carollers came knocking on our door throughout December it was a delightful surprise. Some years, we'd go carolling too.

So what songs do you feel comfortable singing with or without music notes to help you along?

I love Silent Night, but always have a hard time reaching that high "Peace" note.
Little Drummer Boy, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Jingle Bells, Sleigh Ride, Here Comes Santa Claus, Up on the Housetop, and Away in a Manger come to my mind.

Singing is a joy! In the past I sang in a glee club and church choirs! Since moving here, my schedule is too busy as the children become more active! However, I have half a day Christmas Eve off and I'm going carolling with the church Dickens group! I am so excited!!! :singing:

I love to sing (the boys prefer I didn't though  ).

I play Christmas carols on weekends and sing along.

At Christmas time we go to Carols by Candlelight - an event held in a lot of towns and cities where the people meet up in a park, the local council organises a band (ours is usually the navy band) and we sing carols with the band and light candles when it gets dark.

It is a great night out for families and a wonderful time to share with everyone.

Carols by candlelight is a wonderful event, really designed with families in mind. It is always set up so that everyone is included.

It is definitely one of my favourite events over Christmas

Here is the link to the homepage, you can see pics from the major cities in the links on the site.

Jodie - that is so cool!! I wonder if they will consider broadcasting it abroad this year or at least a taped version to be played on Christmas Day over here. It just looks so awesome.

I don't go carolling anymore, though I did as a teenager. Our church group always did the rounds of the seniors' homes and of course, sang for services over the Christmas season.

I know some groups here do the same thing for the hospitals and homes. Though I'm sorry to say a lot of it has been curtailed by the threats of lawsuits regarding infection and health & safety (the latter is totally out of control here). :|

So I sing round the house! And I've caught hubby doing it too. :P I knew I'd convert him eventually.

:elf: I can't believe there are lawsuits over a merry group carolling - what's next? I suspect Santa's entry on Christmas Eve delivering his surprises is going to be the next case in court.
Are germs really spreading that quickly? I'd be more worried about getting shot at from the other side of the door than a trip to the courthouse because I gave someone a cold.

I remember two winters when a bunch of relatives and a few close family friends when on sleigh rides and returned to the warmth of a decorated Christmas home to sing carols, eat sweets and have a gift exchange. It was great!

One year, as a young teenager my parents and some friends went carolling and it was rather chilly, but huddling together to sing and the glow of the lights on the houses seemed to help us forget how cold it was. I know my cheeks froze.

The best time I had carolling was with my brother's puppet troupe called Smile Inc. we took the puppets we used for our Christmas show out with us. We were in high school then and some people thought we were just doing it for the money. We were insulted. My brother told them our group name to watch for in the newspaper as our money was indeed going to the Santa Fund. Geesh! We even talked one of my brother's friends into dressing up as an Elf - can't image anyone going to that much trouble to rip people off.

The first couple of years we lit our luminaries we were all singing Christmas songs as we prepared the bags and candles along the snowbanks. I tried to get the neighbours going the last few years, but only one or two hummed along.

:singing: I think your Carols by Candlelight makes up for not having snow at Christmas, Jodie.
