Lottery Tickets-How good a Christmas gift are they?

This is something I ponder a lot about. I mean, the cheapest ones are $1, and some states sell them as high as $20 or $30.

My sister thinks they're useless, and I think they're not. I mean, if you have at least $1 you could afford a lottery ticket for that someone on your gift list. (Heck, I got 4 $1 Christmas-themed lottery tickets in my stocking in '05)

And who knows, you might win. (Depends on how many you buy for the people on your list). Thoughts, people?

If you don't have a problem with gambling, their a great stocking stuffer for adults. My in-laws love the things, so we'll tuck one or two into their cards. :flake:

We don't usually give them out at Christmas time, but for birthdays with hubby's extended family we usually give and get lottery tickets. We have a rule where you can't spend more than $5 on a gift. I also get some homemade stuff, like crocheted dish clothes, and nice useful items from the dollar store, like napkins. (Basically it's for everyone over 21, when you're still under 21 you get much more money spent on you.)

Just to sum up, I think it really depends on your point of view and who you would be giving the tickets too.

That is all my FIL ever wants for gifts. We learned a few years ago not to buy him anything else. That is what he most looks forward to for Birthdays, Fathers Day and Christmas. We have bought him some very nice gifts over the years most of which he never had any interest in. Get him a can of poppy cock popcorn and a couple of scratch tickets and he is one happy guy. The only other gift he enjoyed was the chocolates I made him last year. So that's what he will be getting for his birthday(DEC.23) and for Christmas this year. :D
