Happy Halloween! and merry Friday Christmas!
At the North Pole, All Saints day is the first Saturday in November and All Soul's Day, the first sunday, it is just coincidence that this year Halloween, All Saints and All Soul's Day fall at the right time. Swedes confuse Halloween with Thanksgiving, must be the pumpkins and kids dressing up as pilgrims and Indians, and never know when to celebrate it. Trick or treating is not a big thing, but then we have Easter Witches who go around on Maundy Thursday begging for candy. Halloween is gaining in popularity and each year there is more and more in the stores. Usually we decorate the apartment, watch movies, and make sloppy joes, but this year with all the stress of the upcoming trip, missing cat, job stress, school, etc, we have not done anything. Hubby said he knows where the electric pumpkin is. On Saturday, we will do the Swedish thing of cleaning up the grave garden, adding ferns for fall, putting up the candles and candle holders, and going to church. More like the Mexican Dia de los Muertos of San Antonio. Sunday returns to domesicity (sp) as we do laundry at the Laundromat. I told hubby one year I want to take the week off even though we have no kids and go to the museums and soak up some atmosphere. Kids are off the whole week for "fall break".
