I usually put up my tree the weekend following Thanksgiving. I want to try and get it up on Black Friday but some in my household may not like that. But in my opinion, Thanksgiving is the beginning of the holiday season, and the 12th day of Christmas (January 5th) ends it.

the christmas village is still causing me concern though....do i put it in the kitchen like my wife wants - we have a HUGE kitchen that has plenty of room for our kitchen table and another large table for the village - or do i put it in our front computer room where i can put up the entire vilalge on atleast 2 tables?

cons are in the kitchen i wont put out the entire village - but it will be visible from my recliner in the living room.

cons in the front room is it wont be visible from my recliner in the living room but it will be visible from outside and passer byes through the double window in that room plus it will be the entire vilalge

Ah, yes, the Christmas decorating decisions!

Personally I have more Christmas than I can display in the entire house........so I rotate items and that way they always seem new.

ugghhhhhh decisions decisions atleast i've settled on where the tree is going

Pretjah wrote:the tree is 100% going in the living room (which is not the front room) the wife, kids and I all agree on that one.

so the front room double windows will get the village or just candles (electric kind) or both.

the compromise has already been made - she gets to decorate 9 months out of the year I get christmas....except for her snowman collections those she gets the final say of

Sounds like a great Christmas plan -- and compromise brings peace! :smilecc:

That's a beautiful tradition that touches so many people with joy at Christmas. If you can, CK, take a picture and post it for us all to see this Christmas?

Now we put it up right after the noon Thanksgiving meal. This takes several hours (Gotta fluff up all the branches). Then the next evening, after decorating the rest of the house, we light up the tree and decorate it. Such wonderful Christmas memories!
:treegifts:

All of my family relatives decorated the tree on Thanksgiving. My DH decorated it on Christmas Eve. We celebrated Christmas on Christmas morning, before church, but my DH celebrated Christmas Eve. I just could not stand to wait til Christmas Eve for a tree so he relented - bless his heart! We now open one gift, and have dinner with his relatives on Christmas Eve and then my family on Christmas Day.

Twice the Christmas! It works for us all! :scene: :scene:

My Christmas tree goes up Thanksgiving night, and if I'm not too tired from the days festivities it gets decorated too. If not I'll get it all finished on the day after. I used to like to send out all my Christmas cards the day after Thanksgiving, but with so much to do that's getting harder to do every year. :holly1:

If anybody's planning on buying The Lion King Blu-ray Combo pack for your kids this Christmas, right now Subway restaurants are offering a Lion King themed kids meal featuring a really neat bag, toy, and a $5 off coupon for the combo pack. :D

That is so awesome that your sons teacher is so wonderful and caring and supportive! The right teacher can be such a blessing to both a child and their family!

Oh, I can hardly wait. Please post pics after you decorate your Christmas tree.
I must wait till the beginning of November! Agreement reached with DH years ago. lol
Although my Christmas clock somehow has gotten left up all year! He hasn't complained about it. Maybe I could re-negotiate our agreement.

Thanks! I bought the Father Christmas/Santa figurines in July and am currently starting a collection. And when someone calls me a Christmas Freak or something along those lines, I take it as a compliment  A very Merry Christmas to you! :smilecc:

woohoo! Keep me posted. Not everything makes it to Sweden! They also give them weird swedish names that sometimes have nothing to do with the original title, for example, the original The Santa Clause is called "Now It is Christmas Again". Then they got in trouble with movies 2 and 3, so we have Now it is Christmas Again 2, etc. LOL

Happy Christmas in August!

Found the following on a church website during my annual random Christmas in August web search:

Appalachian Mountain Christmas
(Christmas in August)
August 31, 2011 - Fellowship Hall of HBC – 6:00 p.m.
Join us for a Christmas in August Covered Dish Supper straight out of the pig-trails of the Appalachian Mountains! Please bring native country-style foods indigenous to the mountains (no casseroles please).

It leads one to wonder what "native country-style foods" entails. I think I will stick with my Korean-Asian theme for Christmas in August dinner. :dinner:

I also keep forgetting to mention that I have been listening to the audiobook Dashing Through the Snow by Mary Higgns Clark and Carol Higgins Clark. I cannot wait to get it in print. It is not quite as good as The Santa Cruise, but is great Christmas fun full of Christmas imagery and a small town festival called Festival of Joy!
:snowkiss:

Also, I have an interview next Wednesday with a swedish recruiting firm. I am praying they do not show me the door when they hear how bad my swedish is. Hubby´s first report on his interview is that it was "one of the best he ever had". So, we shall see. Exciting time with the Familj Lundgren! :smilecc:

Doesn't look like it. I think a lot of people would support it.
But if Tim Allen is not on board, it wouldn't fly (pun).
