I love October too and think of it as the true beginning of Autumn - I guess we're alike, except there are 4 birthdays in my family and we don't really "celebrate" Halloween. But Autumn is awesome and October is the best month!!!!

Yep Happy October everyone. My wife's Grandmother on her mom's side will be turning 90 this month! Woohoo! (see doesn't look are act 90 at all...much younger)

We celebrate Halloween big time - we make it a fun-scary for the kids that come to the door - we're not out to give anyone a heart attack. We dress up to pass out candy and decorate our front entry and my wife hands out candy while I 'fog' everyone with our fogging machine. Everyone has a good time!

90! Isn't that wonderful. My paternal grandmother was 93 when she died and had attitude on her like you'd not believe, bless her. I hope to grow old disgracefully too! :gbhouse:

Yeah she looks and acts like shes in her 60's - when my wife said she was going to be 90 I was totally shocked. I hope to live forever...but I'll settle for nice and old.

I just want to be conherent and have my wits about me - I don;t want to just 'hang on' when I get older.

I am hosting my very first Halloween party for adults on Friday 31st October - I can't wait.

It is fancy dress too and I will take lots of pics to show you all.

Does anyone have any goulish recipes for me - it is all snack foods to have with drinks.

I found this one - called "Dead Man's Cheese ball"

INGREDIENTS (US Measurements)
---------------------------------------------
1 1/4 pounds sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded
1 cup sour cream
1/4 cup butter, melted and cooled
1 tablespoon prepared horseradish
1 teaspoon prepared hot mustard
2 dashes chipotle hot sauce
1 clove garlic, minced
1/4 cup port wine
1/2 cup black sesame seeds

DIRECTIONS
-------------------------
1.In the container of a food processor, combine the Cheddar cheese, sour cream, butter, horseradish, hot mustard, chipotle sauce, garlic and port wine. Pulse until smooth. You can use a potato masher in a large bowl but it will take longer.

2.Line a bowl with plastic wrap, and fill with the cheese mixture. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight.

3.Toast the sesame seeds in a dry skillet over medium heat just until fragrant, about 3
minutes. Gather the plastic wrap around the cheese mixture and form into a ball. Remove the plastic wrap and roll the ball in sesame seeds to coat. Place in the center of a platter and surround with your favorite chips or crackers.

For me, Autumn begins Labor Day weekend. Here in the desert, where temperatures are over 100F, it is so hard to emotionally connect with Autumn. So I decorate my home, office with the scents/scenes I love so much about Fall! :peekleaves2:

I too love October, the Autumn and Halloween and of course Christmas is well and truly on it's way. Things are starting to get busy now in preparation for Halloween and Christmas. I love wandering around the shops looking at Christmas displays and each time you go something has changed. Getting excited now...

The decided drop in temps is helping the excitement too. :smilecc:
