In 1843, "A Christmas Carol" was written by Charles Dickens in just six weeks.

“Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories and love of kindred, and we are better throughout the year for having, in spirit, become a child again at Christmastime.”

Christmas became a national holiday in America on June, 26, 1870.

Just back from our second hockey game today. DS team won 3-2. :smilecc: This is their second win in a row. Unfortunately they lost the first seven games of the season, but winning these two have picked up their spirits and given them back their confidence.
The children have just gone to bed, DH is watching the Grey Cup (Canadian football League final game), and I am sipping on a very yummy glass of eggnog while visiting here at my favourite Christmas place.

Noel glad to hear you had a nice Thanksgiving. I hope you are fully recovered and feeling 100% really soon. You poor thing, you got that nasty H1N1 bad. Thinking of you and sending positive thoughts your way! :rudolph:

The house is festively decorated - there are Christmas lights in every room... Both trees are up and as beautiful as ever... The cakes are baked, the puddings boiled... Carols are playing quietly in the backgound on the laptop as I work - all is well...

It is just beautiful...

I have posted all overseas cards, including the CAY cards. I have written most of the local cards and they are ready for the annual family letter and some ho, ho, ho sprinkles to be added for extra cheer.

I still have to wrap the gifts that are all over my dining room table - we have been eating dinner in front of the TV for far too long and I need to get this done soon...

Christmas is so close I can taste it

How was everyone's Thanksgiving?
Noel-sorry to hear about your bout with the flu. Hope you're feeling better.
I got a lot of deals on Black Friday (online). I have not decorated yet but I was finishing the last touches of my Holiday Grand Plan cleaning schedule (I was a few weeks off). I started baking this past week.
The weather is finally the crisp fall weather. Now it is time to take great holiday pics of the kids with all the fallen leaves for our Christmas cards!
I just finished a Christmas novel, love those romantic christmas novels!

Santa will be at Wal-Mart this weekend for free photos of the kids. They wil make you extra prints for the regular cost of their 5X7 prints. These make super Christmas gifts for the grandparents.

I found some more Christmas lights and added them to the ones that are already in my bedroom -it is so nice to put them on and then when I finally go to bed at night there is that warm glow of the Christmas lights in there...

Glad to hear everyone is in the Christmas spirit! It's so very close now!!

Physically I am slowly recovering, but so very weak I cannot work. That concerns me..........and just an emotionless due to fatigue.

The Christmas decorations are beautiful and the music delightful. My cards are not written, my gifts not wrapped, and no fudge even started.........but Christmas will come whether I finish that list or not.

Cheers for Christmas! :smilecc:

One word S N O W!!!!!!! :snowwow:
It is now December first and it began to snow sometime in the very early hours, I was awake at 3 am and it had started already. The ground looks to have a beautiful blanket of white and the branches are covered as well. It is still dark, can't wait until daylight to see the winter wonderland.
This is an early surprise Christmas gift for me. They had predicted a few wet flurries mixed with rain. I am happy they were wrong this time. :flake: :snovel: :snowjump:

Nothing puts me in a Christmas mood like snow does. Last night we checked the weather forecast for tomorrow and it was for rain. This morning we checked it and they have upgraded it to snow. :snowwow:

I'm heading out this morning to run a few errands. I'm going to stop by and pick up the last Christmas lay-a-way that I have. :shop:

My shopping trip went well. I picked up my lay-a-way and got some extra wrapping paper. I also ordered the Christmas gifts for the kids at church. :opengifts:

Since a lot of people at this site participate in Operation Christmas Child I thought I'd post this link. I ordered dd this Veggie Tales Christmas movie today.

In 1836, Alabama was the first state in the USA to declare Christmas a legal holiday.
In 1856, President Franklin Pierce decorates the first White House Christmas tree.

In 1907, Oklahoma became the last USA state to declare Christmas a legal holiday.

Two days until my mom comes to visit. This will be our Christmas with her. Our gift to her is a poinsettia, small box of chocolates and a gift card for Sears. The children always like to each give her something.

I went to our church today and started decorating for Christmas. I got the kids tree put up so they can decorate it Sunday. We've decided to buy our Sunday School kids some extra gifts to put under the tree so that means I've got more shopping to do. :shop: :merrysleigh:
