mistletoe misfit wrote:$8 per pound!! That is crazy! We wouldn't be having turkey either if it was that price. Is turkey just not something they normally have for Christmas and other holidays in Sweden? Curious as to why the high cost.

Good Luck tomorrow!!! Positive thoughts and prayers for you and your Hubby's interviews!

Nope, turkey is pretty rare in Sweden which is why we have had chicken for the last 4 years. My american cousin also serves chicken in Belgium for her husband and friends. But Anders has the fantasy of a whole basted turkey in the oven. Maybe.....when I first got here turkeys showed up around christmas but they were scrawny looking. At least these look like they have a decent amount of meat. Rotissiere chicken is actually as cheap as a whole uncooked chicken so I was thinking of getting a couple of turkey breast filets (expensive, but more affordable than a whole turkey) and then getting a rotissiere chicken for the light /dark meat and using that for my post holiday casseroles and salads. Best of all, I can have proper "leftover sandwiches" now that I found stove top stuffing at the english store. Have to make a trip over there soon. :dinner:

For Christmas, Swedes eat ham, thanksgiving is goose, and Easter is chicken. Anders said if we get enough land for the B/B we can raise turkeys, but I am not sure I could kill them.

LOL I hear you! We live in the country and could have chickens and turkeys etc..Once we fed them, then we'd name them, then they would be pets. DD 9 and I would really like to have chickens for laying eggs. Hubby repeatedly says no way!! Poor man has to be strong or we would definitely be over run with animals. I guess we will have to be content with our 2 bunnies, 2 dogs and 2 cats.

It's been cool the past few days here, which has me dreaming of Christmas and craving some egg nog!! :scene:

I just gave away the last of my laying hens. Feed is so expensive and with winter coming I really didn't want to have to brave the weather to care for them. We have horses and cattle to take care of too and the chickens were just to time consuming. I have raised turkeys before and all the ones we had were very aggressive. We never butchered them, but there were times when I wouldn't be sad to see them as our Thanksgiving or Christmas main dish. :dinner: :holly1:

We had a bake sale for our kids at church today. All those delicious rolls, cakes, and cookies. Yum! I am really looking forward to my holiday baking this year. I plan on making several tins of goodies for Christmas gifts. :smilecc:

I love receiving baked goods as gifts!!! One of the moms I babysit for, usually makes me a batch of goodies for Christmas. Most years it is a marshmallow, peanut butter, butterscotch chip square. I don't remember the name of it, but it is awesome and you can't just eat one or even two. Yum!! :smilecc:

  had the most grueling interview ever for a part time job today. Felt like an FBI interrogation. If losing your temper and talking back win you points, then I got the job! If doing it while speaking Swedish is, then I did not. Anders said if I gave them something to think about and remember, I am one up on the others. I think I did that..............but not expecting a Christmas miracle out of this one. Then again, it was the psychology department, maybe part of the test was how well you stand up to intimidation? that seems to be the norm in interviews lately. It is exhausting. Need some Christma music to mellow my mood.

I heard Linus and Lucy this weekend while cooking and it reminded me of the Christmas season.

It is hard to believe that fall is just around the corner...decorating time is beginning...culminating in the Christmas season. Every year it amazes me.

I got an early Christmas present yesterday! My Swedish citizenship came through in record time! Tomorrow we are going to apply for my swedish passport. WE talked about taking a Christmas cruise to St Petersburg to celebrate, but not sure that is a wise use of our funds right now. We shall see!

I also downloaded a Christmas app for my Ipod. It is called Christmas Experience. They also had the Halloween Experience, but sadly no "thanksgiving experience". It´s beginning to feel alot like Christmas!

Worked in the sound booth tonight at church. The choir quickly ran through the songs for Sunday and then it was time for CHRISTMAS CHOIR PRACTICE!
:sing: :carolbells:
They only rehearsed 3 songs, but they sang them twice. The Christmas Special this year is going to be great. Can't wait.

My mother-in-law just gave us my husband's grandmothers table linens. They are very old and very beautiful. She said that she would always use them for special Sunday dinners and holidays. I can not wait to see them on my table for Christmas dinnner. :merrysleigh:

Great day today.
:rake: Cleaned the house.
:cheer: Put up all the fall decorations.
:jump: Went shopping with my wife, then picked up the kids and went out to dinner.
:orn1: Then we all went to Hobby Lobby and walk thru the Christmas isles.
Now I'm watching football.
Life is great.
Praise God!
