Tomtemor wrote:This weekend is Swedish Thanksgiving. As Sweden does not have a "thanksgiving" culture of tv and movies, we borrow from the American and watch A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and listen to AIO thanksgiving episodes. It makes us feel that much closer to Christmas!

Just out of curiosity, do our Canadian Christian friends celebrate just on Monday or the whole weekend? Are there any Canadian "thanksgiving" tv specials?

There's a couple of youtube clips from the Muppet´s swedish chef. I have to take what I can get. :dinner:

Tomtemor Thanks for the links! I loved the muppets! :smilecc:
Thanksgiving is a long weekend here. It is not as large as the U.S. Thanksgiving though. It has been celebrated in some form for a few hundred years, although I don't believe it became an official holiday until the 50's. Our family usually watches Charlie Brown, and eat lots of turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie. This year we are going to my aunts on Sunday and I am making turkey for us on Monday. :smilecc:
Thanksgiving is my DH's favourite holiday. It is my second favourite next to Christmas

At the Dollar Store today I picked up a Jumbo box of 'Benderoos' for $3. I remember these were advertised like crazy last Christmas. I didn't buy them then because I knew dd was a little young for them but know I think she'll have a lot of fun. :smilecc:

This is also our Canadian thanksgiving weekend, and we have a long weekend. Although Thanksgiving is actually on Monday we have our big dinner on Sunday so we can lounge around Monday and watch movies, usually Christmas ones! As for Thanksgiving specials we also watch Charlie Brown.

We have spent the day giving the apartment its "fall" cleaning and decorating for fall. The autumn table cloth and curtains have been ironed and are in place for tomorrow, the thanksgiving dishes are out of the closet and the real silver has been polished. I even got out a couple of Precious Moments to grace the table. I decided I would rather use them and risk their breakage continue to not use them at all. My beautiful husband also completed the second shelf in the kitchen renovation project giving more food storage space and computer space. My kitchen is also my office. We usually watch Halloween movies until All Saints day (first weekend in November in Sweden) including Nightmare Before Christmas, one of my favorites! Since we got married at Swedish halloween in 2007 (swedes do not celebrate on the 31st, but the weekend before), The Corpse Bride is our "anniversary" movie.

Tomorrow we will have "just like thanksgiving chicken" from http://www.recipezaar.com, chicken flavored stove top stuffing bought at the english grocery in downtown stockholm, frozen brussel sprouts, and store bought swedish berry pie with vanilla ice cream. If I am really ambitious, I might make eggnog.

Do many of our Christmas friends serve eggnog at Thanksgiving too? I come from the Texas, it is mostly just a christmas thing for us, though I did see it as early as Halloween before I left. Oh how I miss ARby's eggnog shakes..........

Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian Christmas Friends.

No commercial eggnog anytime in Sweden, so you have to make your own. Here is the recipe I use:

http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/easiest-eg ... etail.aspx

It works for us since I am diabetic and do not drink much alcohol. You can add a touch of whatever you like. It reminds me of the "egg milk" my grandmother used to make us as kids. I have had commercial eggnog but not the kind cooked on the stove so I cannot tell you how it compares.

Happy Thanksgiving! one more holiday closer to Christmas

Well, I make it back from our cruise to the Bahamas. Had a GREAT time.
Went to a Christmas store in Nassau. Didn't buy anything. Prices were 4 times what you would pay here.

I hope everyone is doing well.

76 Days till Christmas!

Went to get a tire fixed yesterday at Wal Mart and the wife and myself decided to do some window shopping there for some toys and things that they will allow in lay-away for this year. So glad that Wal Mart is doing this for Christmas,,,,,I was running out of hiding spots. :smilecc:

Got an email offer from a mail order catalogue we often use for a 20% off. I was going to order some things both for myself and for hubby's Christmas so I jumped at it. That is 3 gifts down and 1 to go!

Happy Thanksgiving to our Canadian Christmas Friends! Happy Columbus Day USA!
