There is nothing really to look forward to again until Thanksgiving. It is just cool here..no snow. It might as well be summer again. My post-Christmas depression is right up there too.

Hej Father Christmas! I love your avatar! That´s why some of us plan a "christmas in july" mini celebration. Search beach christmas on amazon or ebay just for the fun of it. It helps lift the Christmas soul! We bought small hawaiian ornaments and sea shell garland for the little tree in the kitchn. Now I just need a star fish for the top. We will make a reversible tree skirt for both "christmases". It is fun to plan! :treewiggle: :peek: :treeswave:

Well, I do not really have a leg to stand on as this job was temporary from the start, but I really like it and had hoped for a continuation at least for a few more months. The funny part is that I came in for someone who had been out sick and someone who had taken another job at the university, so I got zero training myself. And I am supposed to allow someone else to benefit from this "experience"?

I have been through a year long layoff in 2002, and that was awful. Not knowing each day if it was going to be the last.

But my boss recommended me for a job at another college, and she did not have to. It is a bit beyond what I do now, but you never know. There are Christmas miracles everyday!

Oh my, you have a whole year of celebrating left! First there is Valentine´s Day which is not just for couples, then there is St Patrick´s Day (my birthday!), then Easter, then a whole summer of patriotic bbq opportunities, Christmas in July, we have Christmas in August too, but only for one day, then Labor Day (another bbq), Halloween and THEN it´s Thanksgiving! Not to mention birthdays, anniversaries, half birthdays (buy a half bundt cake and give half a card [got that from someone´s blog]), name days (swedish thing), and any other occassion you can make up! :scene:

Thank you for the advice Tomtemor. I do plan for Christmas in July, but I still can't get the December Winter Wonderland Christmas (event though I didn't get any snow this year) out of my head. But that's what this website and all of my Christmas friends are for :D

I save the "snow" and "winter" movies for the after Christmas blues. Snow Dogs, Happy Feet, Doctor Zhivago, Ice Station Zebra, The Thing........that should be enough snow for you! :snowwow:

Lol The Thing :D The problem with winter movies is that they aren't nearly as entertaining to me as Christmas movies. But oh well, winter still is a beautiful season (and it always reminds me of Christmas) :snowman1:

I grew up in winter wonderland mid-west USA but as an adult have lived mostly in California & Arizona. It is 80F here today.........Christmas was a balmy 73F. What do I do? I decorate with fake snow, frosted or beaded or glowing eveything at Christmas time. Pull on your childhood ability to pretend.........I imagine it white, beautiful, with misty skies when the full sun is blasting 73 in the shade at me!

You can do it Father Christmas! And here.......at CAY........we celebrate every day of the year!

Jennifer, I hope the job at the other university is a good fit for you. A good recommendation from your boss, under the circumstances, is like finding that last Christmas present behind the tree...unexpected and happy. :shop:

Yeah, I see what you mean. If I can have the Christmas spirit in me all year long, I can pretend there's snow when they're isn't any. And it's a lot easier because I have my Christmas friends from christmasallyear.org that celebrate Christmas all year too :D

These past couple of weeks I've been thinking about Easter a little bit. I've always been fond of Easter, it's one of the really good holidays. What does anyone else think about Easter? I think of it as Christmas in Spring because there is a figure who brings gifts the night before the actual holiday (like Santa Claus) and are both based on Christianity.

Well, Father Christmas, from a Christian standpoint, Easter is the fullfillment of Christmas. also, yes, there is the Easter Bunny. But in my house, the Easter Bunny came early in the morning, I guess that is true, so does Santa in the US. My mother said I took the "news" about Santa okay, but that I cried when I found out there is no Easter Bunny. I do not remember this, perhaps because I still refuse to believe it. However, unfortunately, the Easter Bunny does not visit Sweden. I know that in the US, Easter has become a sort of Second Christmas with prepackaged easter baskets. I need to do some research on what they used to contain in the good ole days before Walmart. Maybe I can put something together. We do have chocolate rabbits and are starting to see a bit more each year. Swedes do change the curtains and the linens for Easter, it creates quite a contrast because some years we still have snow at easter time. :snowwow:

I had never thought of Easter as the Christmas of spring. I like that idea.

"Easter is the fullfilment ofnChristmas." Great statement!! It is comforting to think about both holidays focus on generosity...whether you are Catholic or not.

Before Walmart, I think the tradition was if a child made a nest and put a basket in it the night before Easter, the next morning the child would discover different colored eggs left by the Easter Bunny. This was a cute little tradition, but eventually with the popularity of Santa Claus bringing gifts, the stores decided that they had to do something with the Easter Bunny so they changed it to have the Easter Bunny bring candy instead of eggs. But now, a different tradition is starting to take shape, now "the Easter Bunny" is starting to leave presents in the baskets. So yeah, that's pretty much how the gift-bringing for the Easter Bunny works. I personally think that Easter has the potential to be a really big holiday on par with Christmas. After all, the chocolate bunny has become a cultural icon here in the USA.
