Meade is a medieval drink made with honey, yeast, and anything else you want to put in it. It is basically honey wine. It is sort of like beer but you do not make it with hops. "summer meade" is something we made with frozen berries-strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, cloudberries, etc. It comes out a dark red and taste wonderful. It has alcohol, but not alot. We make it for swedish Midsummer and then drink it for Christmas in July.

We have made one with habanero that puts hair on your chest and numbs the throat (and tongue) when one is sick. ;-)

I will have to try that habanero concoction the nec time I have a sore throat. Those other Meade drinks sound yummy for a Christmas in July afternoon beverage while lounging on the hammock.

When you are ready to try it, let me know and I will send you Perky´s email address and he can advise. He is in the meademaking guild of the SCA. There really is no special equipment. We have what looks like a giant kettle, a hose, and two plastic jugs. Probably the tube that lets the meade "breathe" as it ferments is the most unusual, but with homebrewing becoming more popular in the US, I am sure there are at least websites. Our new apartment came with a glass top stove, not my choice, so we bought a sturdy hot plate for meademaking and using the cast iron skillets. I do not want the meade kettle to crack it. That would be no Christmas fun!

Merry Friday Christmas! LIstened to some Christmas OTR on the way into work, but no time to listen to even "easy listening" internet Christmas channel today. Stress at work, stress at home. Not a good combo. Hubby and I have very different opinions on how the move should be done. Me: pack, hire movers, done. Hubby: We do everything ourselves which is slow going and very hard work.........there may be one less person for Sanata to deliver presents to this year.........
