Just sent Perky a Christmas countdown to do list. I am looking forward to being off and trying very hard not to be sick. Tomorrow is the office "julbord" where we go to a restaurant for the traditional Swedish smörgåsbord.

Yesterday, my manager took our group out for lunch as our Christmas present. Today, the VP of engineering is buying a ton of pizzas for the whole department.
I'm gonna be so fat!

Hope you feel better soon. Being sick before Christmas is no fun! Perky is fighting another cold so he is not a happy camper. Perky also got an early Christmas present yesterday in the form of a signed contract. I was thinking that maybe it is only for a year to see how well he does juggling two schools. He has them laid out like military units and he is the field commander.........who ever knew that supervising military excercises would be such good experience for a preschool admin.

Discipline is a good thing. Congratulations on the contract. The Christmas elves have been hard at work granting wishes.

I got the last of Michelle's Christmas stocking stuffers last night. Mostly candy. Tonight when she is not looking, I will fill it up.

Sounds too Christmas fun. In my family, we had stockings with our names on them, but they were only hung for decoration. Never actually filled. One of these years, I would like to do stockings for St. Nicolas day, but it always sneaks up on us.

Enjoy your Christmas party Jolly. How much fun it must be to have the week of Christmas off from work. Make every moment count and keep Elf Perky on task!

In a former life I worked two jobs, one fulltime, one part time in retail for 7 years, the second half of my first marriage. The first Christmas I worked 40 hours at my regular job and 30 at the second one. I vowed never again. After that, I used my seniority and took off December 15-26 and did not tell the mall I was available for daytime. It was doable as I got to sleep in and do my Christmas baking in peace. At my last job in San Antonio, I worked as a church admin so we were closed both Christmas Eve and Christmas day. That was nice. Swedes fail to understand that most in the US technically work on Christmas Eve though they may try to sneak away using sick leave, OT, etc. Many a Christmas Eve I was in the bank drive thru until 6 pm. But we could usually work out a deal with the young singles who preferred to be off early for New Year's Eve. Here, many Swedes take off December 13-January 13 because most schools are closed. I have recently learned that parents of children up to age 10 can have 10 weeks off a year to account for school vacations. (not all with pay). No wonder some of my cowkers are never here.

 10 weeks?! Wow. Never even in my dreams. In America we have to pay our dues (seniority) in most jobs but some jobs (retail/nursing/etc) there is no possibility at all. You obviously earned every d a y off Jolly. So happy your Christmas will be rested & peaceful. :smilecc:

The short American vacation plus working your way up again was in the negative category for moving to Texas. Here in Sweden the amount of vacation you get is based on age, so it does not matter if you change jobs. I wish Perky and I were off the whole time together, but he has to use part of his days to cover the lack of pay when the school is closed for Christmas. :razzberry:

Well Elf Jolly I do remember you saying a few weeks ago you would like some alone time at Christmas. Santa was obviously listening. Maybe a good Christmas nap when Perky works?!
