Our snow is mostly gone. It was just a feather dusting. I doubt we will have more before Christmas. They said it might snow today, but it is too "warm" so we just have cold rain. Yuck. That is too much like a San Antonio winter. :snowwow:

I don't have to monitor my blood sugar, but if I did, I know it would be elevated around Christmas time also.

Enjoy your Christmas party Jolly. How much fun it must be to have the week of Christmas off from work. Make every moment count and keep Elf Perky on task!

In a former life I worked two jobs, one fulltime, one part time in retail for 7 years, the second half of my first marriage. The first Christmas I worked 40 hours at my regular job and 30 at the second one. I vowed never again. After that, I used my seniority and took off December 15-26 and did not tell the mall I was available for daytime. It was doable as I got to sleep in and do my Christmas baking in peace. At my last job in San Antonio, I worked as a church admin so we were closed both Christmas Eve and Christmas day. That was nice. Swedes fail to understand that most in the US technically work on Christmas Eve though they may try to sneak away using sick leave, OT, etc. Many a Christmas Eve I was in the bank drive thru until 6 pm. But we could usually work out a deal with the young singles who preferred to be off early for New Year's Eve. Here, many Swedes take off December 13-January 13 because most schools are closed. I have recently learned that parents of children up to age 10 can have 10 weeks off a year to account for school vacations. (not all with pay). No wonder some of my cowkers are never here.

How much of that 10 weeks is paid?
Dec 13 - Jan 13 would be such a nice Christmas break.

Minimum Swedish vacation is 4 weeks, then it goes up by age. I get 35 days at age 50. When I first started at the university in 2010 as an intern, my office mate said you get two more days at age 50 making it 37, but I have not found that written anywhere. Perky works for a private preschool company and gets only 25 days. For those with children under 10 I have learned they can take up to 10 weeks total, but beyond their legally allowed vacation 4-6 weeks, it is unpaid leave. Because I work with Registration I have never been able to take off the full month at Christmas.

Today is my last day of work before Christmas, but I am "on the job" again on December 28, some days working at home, some in the office. The powers that be scheduled our Admission Round 2 for December 28. That can't make anyone who works in academic administration happy. :razzberry:
