Christmas Movies TV Remembered

Postby Auntie Mistletoe » Sat Jun 28, 2008 5:35 pm

In Reindeer Games under the Gimme 5 game a question was raised that jostled my memory so I thought we could chat about it more.

Thinking back, what are some of the earliest Christmas movie or TV specials that you recall viewing and enjoying as a youngster?

 Let's share our memories and comments as to whether or not those earlier films and specials we first encountered are still actively persuing our Christmas thoughts.

At a very young age, "Lady & The Tramp!" Then I do remember the first Christmas film I saw on tv was the original "Miracle on 34th Street." And the first Christmas special was Charlie Brown!

What sweet memories! :smilecc:

I remember watching the Smurf Christmas Special. I of course watched Charlie Brown as a child as well.

The cartoon "Small One" was one of my favorites. If I remember correctly, it's about a boy who takes a small donkey that no one wants and the donkey is eventually used to carry a pregnant Mary to Bethlehem. It was sweet. I haven't seen that cartoon in years.

When I was in elementary school, the "Little Match GIrl" with Keisha Knight Pulliam (Rudy from the Cosby Show) and Rue McClanahan (Blanche from the Golden Girls) came on TV and I loved that movie.

"A Hobo's Christmas" was a made for TV move that I loved as well. I actually found that one on video about 3 years ago. It wasn't available on DVD unfortunately, but the VHS will do.

I can't remember the name of this TV movie, but it's about an older rich lady with a brain aneurysm. She was alone and grumpy and she changes when she finds out that she has an aneurysm. She reconnects with her children and becomes more open. It all takes place during Christmas. Anybody know what movie I'm talking about?

I used to love watching those made for TV Christmas movies.

Stephanie, I do know what movie you're descrbing, but can't remember the name either!

When I was 8 I saw a tv special movie about the story The Maji and I remember it strongly impacted me!

Argh! Tough question Auntie. I think my earliest memory is of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. There weren't nearly as many tv specials 40 years ago when I was a nipper (I'm 50 this year). But I was happy to get into it when my children were small. :P

My sweet DH just reminded me I forgot one very special show that always had Christmas features for children!!! WALT DISNEY or DISNEYLAND or WORLD OF DISNEY whichever version played where you lived!

In it each year they had atleast two shows for Christmas: a secular one, and a Christian one emphasizing the true meaning of Christmas. WOW - the times have not changed for the better on that one. Oh, well........

Mickey' 1st Christmas Carol, the MM version of The Maji, From our House to Your House collection of Disney cartoons, and then excerpts from Disney movies with Christmas scenes.

My heart is just overflowing now with wonderful Disney Christmas momentos!!!!!!! :snowwow:

I always loved watching the Christmas shows. We watched all of them that came on - unless we got to arguing then mom made us go to be early and miss the Christmas specials.

A favourite of mine had Benji in the title (not the dog). It was about a carpenter who came into town and taught the village about Christmas. Charles Nelson Reilly did the voice of the bad guy.
