Magic Reindeer Mix

Postby CandyKane » Fri Apr 04, 2008 10:58 pm

Simple "Recipe"
Just mix together some dry oatmeal and glitter
Place in cellophane or clear plastic bags and add a tag that reads:

'On Christmas Eve, sprinkle the magic reindeer mix on your lawn to guide Santa's reindeer to your rooftop. While Santa makes his delivery inside, Rudolph and his friends can have a snack.' :rudolph:

This craft is so quick and easy and really fun for the kids. :smilecc:

thats cute...when my DD was little we gave her a one of a kind ornie made of polymer clay.always some christmas theme..and put it on her best gift.or the one she wanted the most..so she would know it came from santa.

and for when she lost a tooth.i would sprinkle gliter on the floor next to her bed and alittle under her pillow..so she would think the tooth fairy was there..lol

Sprinkling glitter from the tooth fairy is so sweet.

My boys used to go reindeer hunting when they were little. Christmas morning would see them outside looking for reindeer tracks - it was so funny.

I just read that glitter can be harmful to animals and it was suggested to use coloured sugar instead. Here's the recipe:

1/2 c. dry oatmeal
1/2 c. bird seed
1/3 c. crystal sugar
1 heartful of Christmas hope

Mix ingredients together. On Christmas Eve sprinkle all over your lawn. The crystal sugar will shine in the moonlight and lead Santa to your house before dawn. The smell of the oats will guide the reindeer directly to your rooftop. The Christmas hope in the magic reindeer food guarantees dear Santa will stop.

Candykane :smilecc:
We just love the reindeer mix here.
Our children have the same teacher for Junior/Senior kindergarten. Each year for 4 years running I have sent the ingredients as well as a little poem to go along with it ,so all the children can do it. Our youngest starts J/K this year, hopefully the teacher will like for it to be sent in again. It is such fun and easy for them to make. We use both red and green sparkle sugar. :jump:

Absolutely love this! Have made it for the last two years and my children think it's wonderful. They really enjoy sprinkling it on the lawn - it's all part of the magic.

Yes, we would use peanut butter as a base on a wreath, ornament, cover them in seeds/nuts/cones/birdfood, and leave it hanging on outdoor trees in Indiana. It fed the birds, ground squirrels, and small animals. We loved it! :hide:

I found this in one of my craft books and thought it was a cute idea. I hadn't really thought about the animal impact so if you were going to actually use it outside the colored sugar would be a better idea. I think I will make up some of the glitter bags for decoration around the house.

I grew up (and continue to live) on a farm so I always put out a big bowl of sweet grain for the reindeer :reindeer2: and a big carrot for Rudolph. :rudolph1: This is the tradition I'll continue with my daughter.
