They are now predicting the worse of the Cat 3 hurricaine Gustav will miss central New Orleans! That's answered prayer!!

Still, it will leave a path of destruction wherever it comes inland.

And, Merry, there are more oil platforms in the gulf than anywhere in the world. Katrina destroyed 1200..........they think it might be more this time............thats why the newscasters expect gasoline prices to rise.

Just maybe we'll get answered prayer about that concern too!

TO ALL WHO LIVE IN THE PATH OF GUSTAV: our healrtfelt prayers for your safety! :snowwow:

By all means, evacuate the rigs. Move everyone who may be in danger. But after the financial revelations of the past few months, I really frosts my cookies to know the people heavily responsible for it (the economic mess I mean), are happy to continue lining their pockets.

Surely they've made enough money lately to ride out any temporary interruptions to oil production. Gah! Sorry, rant over. Its just a real sore point with me, all this irresponsible wheeling and dealing.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled forum thread.

Merry don't worry about your rant - I'm so with you!!! Actually oil prices are lower now - "Marketwatch.com reported traders are waiting to see if there will be any major disruptions before reacting. Whereas, when Katrina hit, oil markets were concerned with how future supply would keep up with rising demand." (680news report)

We're supposed to receive the remnants of Gustav in a couple of days.

I'm on Florida's West coast so it was a relief to see Gustav miss us - I hate that it went to Louisiana again though. Now we have Hurricane Hanna and T.S. Ivan coming our way.

This time of year is always busy for us!

Best of wishes to all those in the way of the hurricanes.

Our weather is going crazy again - 1 September was officially the first day of Spring in Australia and the first two days were lovely. You could smell that spring was in the air. But today is cold again. Very cold, I am sitting here with a heater under my desk on high.

Sunny and cool here. Sedgley is at a high-ish elevation in relation to the rest of the area so the temps are generally lower up here than in town. Really feels like Fall today. This week its been sunny in the morning, clouding over and raining in the afternoons. :holly1:

Looks like Hanna is going to just go up the East coast of FLorida and miss the state entirely.

Ike is supposed to head towards Cuba by this weekend.

Josephine is too far away to determine what will happen yet...

It is supposed to be spring time and it is still freezing. We had minus 5 two days ago in the morning and a top of 12C.

I can't wait for it to warm up, I want to plant some flowers into pots and some new strawberry plants. Lettuce, tomatoes and a few herbs too.

Where is my sunshine and warm weather - this is supposed to be Australia.

My heart goes out to all those in the path of Ike. Such devastation, but it was predicted to be worse so we are grateful for that blessing. What a year of hurricanes! We are supposed to have cooler weather as a result so that is also a blessing as it is over 105F daily.

I want my spring time it is still freezing here.

We had a wild storm and wind yesterday (not as wild as your east coast has had it of late).

I hope everyone in the paths of those hurricanes is safe and those that have been unfortunate, I hope that you get the help that you need.

It's starting to cool down in Pittsburgh with the high today at 69 degrees. Sunday nigt we had the remnants of Ike blow through here with winds at 27 MPH with gusts at 52 MPH. A little north of of here there a lot of trees down with power outages. Today there are a few people without power, but everyone should have power by late this afternoon.
