Any Ideas for a dad who's IMPOSSIBLE to buy for?

Postby Christmas_Eggnog » Sat Sep 12, 2009 11:26 pm

The title mainly says it all...I already have one great gift in mind but am hoping on getting him a second gift. However, my dad is IMPOSSIBLE to buy for. Usually he returns the stuff we get him or the gifts end up dusting up on a shelf. He's mainly into electronics and satelites, etc...but I cannot afford those things on my tight budget. If you guys could help give me some suggestions for gifts then that'd be wonderful. Thanks so much!

Oh, and x-mas in coming up so soon! 103 days!!!! :happyny:

Does your Dad enjoy fishing? Maybe a new rod or tackle, tackle box.
Does he enjoy sports at all? A new bat, ball glove, shoes. A new Jersey, T-shirt or cap of his favourite sports team.
Any favourite TV shows? If it's a popular show there is usually tons of stuff to be found.
Does he have a favourite author? If he enjoys reading, a book is always great.
Is there a movie coming out he might enjoy? You and he could enjoy a movie night together.
Just a few suggestions, hope it helps a little. I am sure others here will have more ideas.

Thanks for all those ideas, mistletoe misfit. :smilecc: Hm  ...well, my dad isn't a golfer and is not much into sports. I don't think he's ever read a book in his life. He's bought one but I've never seen him read it. He does watch movies so perhaps I could try and figure something out from there. I like your idea about the movie night...

You could make him up a movie gift basket. Purchase a cheap basket or large bowl from a dollar store. Fill it with popcorn bags, chips, pop or juices he enjoys and any other munchies he would like. Then either buy him a movie he likes or get rental coupons/cards from your local rental place so he can choose.

I know that this is not the perfect gift to buy, but if you start to run out of time. A gift card to Canadian Tire, Home Depot, Radio Shack, the Source, or similar stores. That way he can use it towards the purchase of one of the more costly items he wants.

My hubby is not the normal sporty type, nor the normal outdoorsy kind of guy and I find it difficult to buy for him too. Wishing you luck!

Thanks so much everyone for the great ideas. :D

Mistletoe misfit, I love your idea about the movie 'basket'....I think I just might end up putting one of those together for him. I also like the idea about the photo...I have a brother so we could probably get that done.

And mrsclaus, I'm glad to meet someone else with a dad who's not a typical easy guy to buy for. He's not a golfer or a sports fanatic so I always find him the hard person on my list to buy for. Thanks for your idea, I love it! :smilecc:
